The culmination of the considerable efforts of the then supporters and activists of cultural events - acad. painter Janka Alexy, acad. sculptor Alfonso Grom, Július Lenka, Daniel Šefčík, Mikuláš Štalmach, Ján Kamhal and others, who at all levels - in the city, the district and the cultural commission in Bratislava tried to promote the idea of creating a patriotic museum in Liptovský Mikuláš, in addition to the Museum of Slovak Karst. The seat of the museum became the Illéšházy manor, the first capital house, also known as the Selig house since the beginning of the 20th century. After its reconstruction in 1958 - 1961, which was provided with difficulty by the first director of the museum JUDr. Martin Martinček the museum succeeded in 1961 open. At that time, the museum was already managed by the Municipal National Committee in Liptovský Mikuláš, which resulted from the territorial reorganization in 1960.
